Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering

Our Mission

The Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering was founded in 1979 as one of the first engineering departments of Eastern Mediterranean University offering education at the highest standards to its students. Our mission is to serve society through excellence in education, research, and public service. We aspire to instill in our students the attitudes, values, and vision that will prepare them for professionalism and life-long learning. We strive to generate new knowledge and technology and aim to educate our graduates for following technological and theoretical developments, and use them to serve the society.

We have set our main objective to be one of the best educational institutions in the geographical area that covers Turkey and the Middle-east. The Electrical & Electronic Engineering undergraduate program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org.

Distinguishing Attributes

Education in the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering is carried out in modern classrooms equipped with the latest technological facilities where a teaching medium is created for the lecturers and students to interact efficiently and effectively. The multimedia desks available in the classrooms have upgraded the educational instruction from classical methods to modern contemporary education where the lecturer organizes lectures around data projection facilities combined with other multimedia facilities. Being the leading department in using modern educational technologies, our department has been helping the other departments in EMU to accommodate high quality and technologically enhanced educational systems in their buildings.

Students have to complete a 40 day internship program prior to graduation. The Department advises the students on their internship and directs them in choosing the right companies or institutions. The students are expected to submit a technical report which includes the industrial experience and the knowledge obtained during the training process. In addition to the industrial gains, our students are increasing the possibility of finding a job through the personal contacts they establish during their summer training period.

The final year project is an important step for each student in order to design and implement a capstone project where the student applies theoretical knowledge in practical implementation. The final year projects are playing a transitional role in that they prepare the students for the expectations of industry before graduation.

Quality of Graduates

As the graduates of the Department of Electrical/ Electronic Engineering have a good command of English, they express themselves perfectly well in technical issues and are capable of establishing good communication with people; and these qualities help them to easily find employment at international institutions and organizations. Our students have not only acquired the fundamental engineering theoretical knowledge that the industry requires but are also knowledgeable in the skills of computer supported design that is used nowadays in every area. Our graduates, who are directed to team work in many courses as well as in the final year project, can participate easily in projects where team work is required. In addition to excellent technical qualifications, our graduates possess managerial and leadership characteristics as they take courses in engineering ethics, industrial business, engineering economy, humanities and social sciences.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of our undergraduate program confront no difficulty in finding jobs in their own countries as they are equipped with the theoretical knowledge that the world of the industry and the academia require, and have familiarity with the most recent technologies. What makes them indispensable lies in the fact that they are computer literate, are able to keep track of all the developments around the world and can carry out scientific research. Well-qualified graduates prefer to continue with their graduate studies either in our department or in highly reputable universities that offer similar graduate programs. The majority of the students enrolled in our graduate programs work as research assistants in the department, and are granted scholarships.
