Eastern Mediterranean University, Business and Economics Faculty, Banking and Finance Department is organising an international conference titled the “2nd Banking and Finance Pespectives”. Commencing with the opening addresses at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, 21 April 2017, the conference will host around 120 prominent academicians from 15 different countries.
During the conference opening to which the participation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Minister of Economy and Energy Sunat Atun and Chair of Central Bank Mehmet Emin Özcan is expected, Prof. Dr. Paresh Narayan, world renowned academician, will be delivering a presentation titled “"Islamic Banking and Finance Literature: Issues, Challenges and Future Directions".
Following Prof. Dr. Narayan’s presentation, a panel titled “The Dynamics of North Cyprus Banking” will take place under the moderatorship of EMU Banking and Finance academic staff member Prof. Dr. Mustafa Besim. During the panel, Manager of Banking Regulation and Supervision(a) of the TRNC Central Bank Çağan TANOĞLU will deliver a speech titled
"TRNC Central Bank and Banking Sector Outlook", Secretary-General at TRNC Bankers Association Halil OKUR will talk about "North Cyprus Banking Vision and Expectations" and Chair of Asbank’s Board of Trustees Taştan ALTUNER will present information on
"Non-performing Loans and Resolution Process in Turkish Cypriot Banking Sector".
Chair of the conference organising board and EMU Banking and Finance Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesrin Özataç stated that the international conference will provide a platform bringing together a considerable number of academicians and banking professionals within the TRNC. Highlighting the important contribution of the organisation for our country’s promotion, Prof. Dr. Nesrin Özataç added that research findings on different issues including global finance, post-crisis banking and finance as well as opportunities and risks encountered in the golbal financial markets will be shared and discussed during the conference.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özataç also put forth that the conference will host discussions on effective financial policies that should be applied by central banks in periods of financial crisis, the importance of inspection, Islamic banking, micro finance and market behavior as well as economic development and energy economics. Assoc. Prof Dr. Özataç finally stated that along with TRNC Central Bank, a considerable number of prominent institutions will be supporting the event.
