The Physiotherapist Adds Years to Life and Life to Years

All over the world the 8th of September is celebrated as “World Physiotherapist Day”. Physiotherapy is the profession carried out by physiotherapists. Following the diagnosis of a doctor, patients that require physiotherapy are directed to physiotherapists who have studied physiotherapy at a university for a minimum of 4 years, expertizing in the field.  Physiotherapists provide care for patients who require a person of expertise in the fields of orthopedics, neurology, hand surgery, physical medicine, rheumatology, sports medicine, chest diseases, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, brain and nerve surgery, gynecological diseases, oncology and obstetrics.  Physiotherapists can also prepare protective exercise programs for healthy individuals with the aim of maintaining their health. With a history of 120 years, physiotherapy as a profession ranks within the top 10 prestigious and most preferred jobs. Faculties providing undergraduate study opportunities in the field of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation are available in the TRNC. The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation under the EMU Faculty of Health Sciences produced its first graduates in the 2013-2014 Academic Year. In addition, starting from the 2016-2017 Academic Year, The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation will offer an English Language undergraduate course.

Physiotherapists may pursue employment opportunities at institutions of higher education, units and departments operating under the Ministry of Health, health units of other state organizations, special education centers, sports clubs, private hospitals and old people’s homes. As mentioned earlier they may also prepare protective exercise programs for healthy individuals.

As an indispensable part of a medical team, physiotherapists have an important role in the progress of the physiotherapy profession. For this reason the primary aim of us physiotherapists is to benefit from 21st century information technology in order to improve and help the public with the scientifically based work we carry out.
