Director of Yunus Emre Institute Visited EMU

Director of Yunus Emre Institute Hüseyin Şahin paid a visit to Eastern Mediterranean University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam. During the said visit, information exchange on the prospective contribution of EMU to Yunus Emre Institute took place.

Yunus Emre Institute is a public foundation founded to promote Turkey, Turkish language, its history and culture and art, make such related information and documents available for use in the world, provide services abroad to people who want to have education in the fields of Turkish language, culture and art, to improve the friendship between Turkey and other countries and increase the cultural exchange. Yunus Emre Institute carries out studies for Turkish teaching in the cultural centres established abroad  in conducting culture and art activities to promote our country, and giving support to scientific researches.

Starting to operate in 2009, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü has more than 40 cultural centres abroad.  Apart from the Turkish education given in the cultural centres, Turkology departments and Turkish teaching are supported with the co-operations made with different educational institutions in different countries. Several activities are organized to promote the Turkish culture and art through cultural centres, and the country is represented through national or international events.

Expressing their wish to teach Turkish and promote Turkish culture abroad, Director Hüseyin Şahin stated that they hope to introduce projects on Turkish culture and introduce them to new generations. In this respect,  Şahin  invited EMU’s support. As a graduate of EMU, Şahin stated that EMU is a high quality institution of higher education.

Stating EMU’s willingness to support Yunus Emre Institute, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam put forth that EMU hopes to work in collaboration with the said institute in the development of Turkish Language Policies. At the end of the visit at which EMU Public Relations and Press Office Director Murat Aktuğralı was also present, Prof. Dr. Osam presented  Hüseyin Şahin a gift made of Lefkara lace.
