EMU Academic Staff Members Eminoğlu and Çavuşoğlu Design An Award-Winning Toy for Visually Impaired Children

An educational toy entitled Hare Eminoğlu and Senih Çavuşoğlu for visually impaired  “Woodle” designed by Eastern Mediterranean University, Communication and Media Studies Faculty, Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design academic staff members children received the international “A” Design Award.

Both Braille alphabet and Latin alphabet were used in the design of WOODLE giving the opportunity to visually impaired children to play together with other children.  Designed as a 3D puzzle, the toy aims to entertain children and, at the same time, develop various skills including getting to know different animals, learning how to spell their names in English, discovering their shapes and writing their names. The toy will support the development of cognitive and emotional intelligence in children. With its unique design, WOODLE qualified for “A” Design Award among 3000 designs from 83 different countries.

Toy for Visually Impaired Children

Awarded in a wide range of categories, “A’ Design Award” is an important competition organisation supported by BEDA (Burean of European Design Associations, ICO-D (International Council of Communication Design), IFI (International Federation of Interior Architects) and  ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industiral Design).

Competition results will be presented in a printed catalogue containing a wide range of designs.  Winners will receive the awards at an international gala night taking place at La Notte Premio A’,Villa Olmo in Como, Italy on 8 June 2016.
