EMU Faculty of Pharmacy Academic Staff Member’s Outstanding Success

Eastern Mediterranean University, Pharmacy Faculty academic staff member Assist. Prof. Dr. Emre Hamurtekin’s project has been accepted by Florence University of Italy. Upon the completion of work on technical development of the project, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hamurtekin’s project has been accepted by “Binding Laboratory of the Department of Neuroscience, Psychology, Drug Research and Child's Health (NEUROFARBA) of the University of Florence, Italy”. During the technical development of the project, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hamurtekin worked at Florence University between 25 June and 5 August.

During his involvement in the project at Florence University, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hamurtekin worked on two projects, namely the antidepressant effect of St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum)  herbal extract and some active chemicals contained in it and an experimental study on the relationship of the three new chemical materials synthesised with some receptors by EMU Pharmacy Faculty, Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department.

Stating that the Receptor Binding Technique he applied abroad is called “Radioligand Binding Assay”, Assist. Prof. Dr. Emre Hamurtekin added that the said technique will play an important role in EMU Pharmacy Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. M. Fethi Şahin and his team’s systematic project entitled “Development of Molecules as Candidates of New Medicine”.  Assist. Prof. Dr. Hamurtekin also put forth that the said project will tighten the bonds between Florence University and Eastern Mediterranean University.
