Forensic Medicine Conference Takes Place at EMU

The conference titled “Forensic Medicine in Context of Current Events” was organized by the Law Club at the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Law. Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Forensic Medicine and EMU Faculty of Law academic staff member Prof. Dr. Nevzat Alkan was the speaker at the conference that took place at the Faculty of Law LA-1 amphitheater.

Prof. Dr. Alkan who works a forensic medicine expert in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) courts touched upon three main points during his talk. Prof. Dr. Alkan first spoke about how autopsies are carried out, who need to be present and who cannot execute them.  Prof. Dr. Alkan also touched upon sex offences, how their examinations are carried out, pregnancy termination and legislative regulations whilst providing examples from his own career. In addition, Prof. Dr. Alkan drew attention to mistakes in medical practice and their consequences.

At the conference where attendance was significantly high, the audience was comprised not only of Faculty of Law students but students from a wide range of faculties and individuals interested in the field. Also present at the conference were EMU Faculty of Law Vice Dean Asst. Prof. Dr. Emine Koçano Rodoslu, Law Club Consultant Asst. Prof. Dr. Nazime Beysan and members of the Faculty of Law academic staff. At the end of the conference Prof. Dr. Alkan was presented a plaque of appreciation by Asst. Prof. Dr. Rodoslu.
