Members of the special committee formed with the purpose of revising the Statute Establishing the North Cyprus Education Foundation and Eastern Mediterranean University came together with EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam in a preliminary meeting which took place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, 23 January 2015.
The revised form of EMU Statute which aims to provide a more democtratic structure for EMU as well as increasing autonomy by enabling boards to take part in decision making mechanisms throughout the university will be finalised after meetings with EMU Administration and 3 unions within the university. In a press release which took place prior to the aforesaid meeting, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Osam stated that EMU has always fulfilled its responsibilities with respect to community and educational undertakings. Stating that during the aforesaid meeting information exchange about the revised statute will take place, Prof. Dr. Osam extended his gratitude to the committee members for their contributions. Putting forth that the committee is special and, at the same time, temporary, Prof. Dr. Tufan Erhürman stated that their purpose is to develop a statute which would correspond with the structure of an independent and democratic university. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erhürman also stated that EMU is the flagship university of TRNC and the formation of a special committee demonstrates the importance the TRNC Assembly gives to the university. At the end of his address, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erhürman stated that following a series of meetings, the statute will reach its final form.
Members of the special committee who attended the meeting were members of the parliament from Republican Turkish Party United Forces Party Assoc. Prof Dr. Tufan Erhürman, Erkut Şahali, Ferdi Sabit Soyer, Asım Akansoy, and members of the parliament from National Unity Party Dr. Erdal Özcenk, Ersan Saner, Dursun Oğuz, member of the parliament from Democratic Party United Forces Mustafa Arabacıoğlu and member of the parliament from the Communal Democracy Party Hüseyin Angolemli. EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan, Vice Rector for Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu, Vice Rector for Administrative Affairs Prof. Dr. Bekir Özer and Vice Rector for Promotion Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca represented EMU in the meeting.
