International Exhibition: "Unusual Message"

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Communication, Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design is hosting an exhibition titled “Unusual Message” consisting of the works of 70 academicians, artists and designers of universities from 12 different countries. The opening ceremony of the “Unusual Message” exhibition will take place on 18th December 2018 Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m., at Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Exhibition Hall with the participation of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Mustafa Akıncı.

Within the scope of the project, 10 objects were sent to universities, where the teams selected by every institution consisting of 6 members (artist/designer) chose 1 of the objects and developed their work of art. The artists turned the objects to stories with fantastic unusual new meanings by using new and exciting ideas with manipulations.

International “Unusual Message” exhibition will be presented to the viewer with a printed catalogue prepared by EMU. “Unusual Message” art project will meet art-lovers from all over the world with international follow-up exhibitions at participating universities from different cultures and continents during the 2018-2019 Academic Year.

Belgian artist Prof. Martin R. Baeyens will be the curator and EMU Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senih Çavuşoğlu will be the coordinator of the “Unusual Message” art project. It is stated that, another aim of the project is to bring together institutions and artists from different cultures of the world and form a wide art and design network which will lead to the forming of a wide international environment of cooperation consisting of common art design projects and student-academician exchange programs in the future.

The participating countries at “Unusual Message” art project are as follows: USA, Bosnia Herzegovina, China, France, Iran, Cyprus, Korea, Kosovo, Mexico, Poland, Romania and Turkey.
