5th Accreditation Process in EMU SCT

As the first and only Vocational School of the TRNC, Eastern Mediterranean University, School of Computing and Technology (SCT) continues to offer high quality vocational study opportunities to students from different corners of the earth.  Having successfully passed a considerable number of European accreditation processes, EMU SCT is now involved in a new accreditation project.

EMU School of Computing and Technology’s Construction Technology (2 and 3-year programs) and Mapping and Cadastral Technology (2-year program) are currently being inspected by a group of inspectors from ASIIN Accreditation organisation.

The visiting group of ASIIN inspectors who will carry out various evaluations on the said programs between 8 and 11 September 2015 paid a visit of courtesy to EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam. During the visit at which Vice Rector for Promotion Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca, Rector’s Coordinator Assist. Prof. Dr. Arif Akkeleş, SCT Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa İlkan, SCT Assistant Director Cantaş Özerek, Construction Technology Program Coordinator Dr. Ece Çelik and Public Relations and Press Office Director Murat Aktuğralı were also present,  Prof. Dr. Osam provided detailed information about EMU and highlighted the importance the university gives to international accreditation. After briefing the visitors on the student profile, collaborations with other universities, EMU summer School and financial structure of the university, Prof. Dr. Osam added that they work hard to provide the students with top quality services.

​​Following the accreditation of EMU SCT’s Computer Technology and Information Systems program by German based ASIIN organisation and its receival of EuroINF quality label of the European Union, the SCT has introduced the firsts within the TRNC with its recent accreditation by FIBAA, an accreditation organisation certifying the quality level and standards of business departments in 28 countries within the European Union. EMU School of Computing and Technologies’ Accounting and Taxation Applications and Medical Documentation and Office Management programs have successfully completed the accreditation process and been awarded FIBAA accreditation for a period of 5 years.

Accreditation is the process to ensure that the third party meets, and maintains minimum standards of quality and integrity regarding academics, administration, and related services. Highlighting the equality and high correspondence level of the programs offered by Eastern Mediterranean University School of Computing and Technology with similar educational programs in the EU countries, EMU SCT director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa İlkan stressed that the internalisation and international accreditations are crucial factors playing an important role in the sustainability of the higher education programs. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa İlkan also stated that accreditation should not be perceived as a club membership as it requires a serious process of evaluation and inspection as well as the production of annual reports. According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlkan, accreditation is indeed a dynamic process.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlkan added that EMU SCT is an EDEXCEL approved center also boasting academic staff members holding the European Computer Driving Licence Certificate. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlkan put forth that SCT is the first academic unit receiving EuroINF Label within Europe.

Putting forth that all programs of the School of Computing and Technology have been accredited by the Turkish Board of Higher Education (YÖK) and the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlkan added that the school will increase its momentum in the path to internalisation and quality assurance.
