Anathema Gives a Magnificent Concert in EMU

Eastern Mediterranean University’s 21st Spring Festival is continuing with an array of activities taking place under the main sponsorship of North Cyprus Turkcell. On the second day of the festival, a series of colorful activities took place.

The festival hosted a 3-sessioned panel entitled “I know one single race entitled HUMAN”. During the first session, a documentary screening on the lives of LGBT individuals living in the TRNC took place. Following the documentary, Reşat Şaban and Ziba Sertbay participated in a talk on LGBT struggle, impositions of the heteromative system on LGBT individuals and discrimination. The second session hosted Barış Başel’s presentation entitled “Social Capital and Radicalism”, Kudret Akay’s talk on “LGBT” and Boysan Boyra’s presentation on the Human Rights in the TRNC. During the final session of the panel, a talk event hosting the producers of the documentary “Don’t Hinder My Dream” took place. At the end of the talks, a cocktail took place with the participation of the representatives of non-governmental organisations.

The festival also hosted a one-person show entitled “Two Books, One Ambition” by Sunay Akın, who talked about questioning as the most important means of self-development and enlightenment. Akın also discussed the place and importance of museums in our lives as well as the 100th anniversary of Çanakkale Victory. At the end of the event, Sunay Akın was presented a plaque of appreciation by Education Faculty Dean Ülker Vancı Osam. Within the framework of the festival, Metin Çakar fascinated the audience with his unique “Sand Art” show.

21st Spring Festival hosted famous English group Anathema, who sang their popular songs among which were “Flying”, “The Storm Before the Calm”, “Internal Landscapes” and ”Untouchable”. It is worth mentioning that during the 2-hour concert, Anathema released messages of peace between the songs. At the end of the concert, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan presented a plaque of appreciation to the famous band.
