Collaboration Protocol Between EMU and Ethiopia METEC

A collaboration protocol has been signed between Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Metals and Engineering Corporation of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (METEC). The protocol was signed by EMU Vice Rector for Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Sevin Uğural and METEC Vice President General Tigabu Fetle, in Addis Ababa the capital of Ethiopia.

METEC, an institution that generates 56% of Ethiopia’s national income, got in touch with EMU’s Economics Department two years ago notifying that a group of the country’s top level public officials such as ministers, counsellors and directors were interested in receiving postgraduate and doctorate level education at the department. Work on the requested program lasted for two years and a workshop titled ‘Important Issues on Ethiopia’s Economic Development” took place in Addis Ababa from the 22nd to the 25th of July 2017. The workshop was attended by EMU Vice Rector for Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Sevin Uğural who has been running the project for the past two years as well as Economics Department Head Prof. Dr. Mehmet Balcılar and two professors from Turkey. At the end of the workshop the collaboration protocol between the two parties was signed. According to the protocol signed, EMU Economics Department will offer the public officials extra courses aimed towards examining and solving Ethiopia’s economic problems in addition to the normal postgraduate and doctorate level courses offered.
