EMU Billiards Team Player Mustafa Alnar Comes 3rd at World Championships

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Billiards Team Player Mustafa Alnar took 3rd place at 2017 World Junior 9-Ball Championship. EMU athlete Mustafa Alnar who made TRNC proud by coming 3rd in Europe in 2016 and 2nd in Europe in the summer of 2017 became one of the best junior billiard players in the World by taking 3rd place at the World Championship that was organized in Moscow, Russia between 30 October – 2 November 2017. A total of 68 athletes from 22 countries and 5 continents competed at the championship. Mustafa Alnar won four of his five matches and lost to Robbie Capito from Hong Kong at the Semi Finals, sharing  third place position with Wiktor Zielinski of Poland who was defeated by 2017 World Junior 9-Ball Champion Sanjin Pehlivanovic of Bosnia Herzegovina.

Mustafa Alnar who prepared for the 2017 World Junior 9-Ball Championship with his trainer Mehmet Şanlısoy by spending at least two hours every day in training, released the following statement: “My opponent that I beat in the Quarter Finals with a score of 9-4, beat me at European Championship Final Match and became European Champion. So this victory was a huge moral boost. Also, we formed great friendships with players who arrived here from all parts of the World. It was a nice experience. I am also an athlete of the EMU Billiards Team that is TRNC Champion for the last two years. I would like to thank EMU Board of Trustees, our Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, EMU Faculty of Education, Secondary School Areas Education Department Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hamit Caner and EMU Faculty of Communication Administrative Staff Mehmet Ali Uluçağ for their support. I hope the value and support that EMU provides for its athletes continues.”
