EMU Signs the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the First Time After Five Years

The collective bargaining agreement which has not been signed for the past five years was signed by Chair of Eastern Mediterranean University Board of Trustees İsmail Arter, EMU Rector (a.) Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and General Secretary of EMU Academic Union Aybike Yektaoglu.

Before putting his signature on the collective bargaining agreement, the chair of EMU Board of Trustees İsmail Arter stated that they have reached this stage following Eastern Mediterranean University’s and Eastern Mediterranean University Academic Union’s mutual efforts. Arter thanked all members of the Board of Trustees and Academic Union for their contributions. Stating that Eastern Mediterranean University is a big family with its administrators and academic and administrative staff, Arter put forth that their aim is to elevate the quality of the university and added that without a collective bargaining agreement, it is extremely difficult to reach the target quality level. Arter stated that due to various reasons, the collective bargaining agreement could not be settled during the past five years and the university encountered difficulties due to the lack of the agreement. Arter concluded his speech by expressing his belief that the existence of the collective bargaining agreement will take the university to further successes and create unity among administrators and academic and administrative staff members.

Following Arter, EMU Rector (a.) Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stated that the parties signed the collective bargaining agreement after a long period of intensive efforts. Prof. Dr. Osam highlighted the importance of the ongoing support of the Board of Trustees for further development of the university. Prof. Dr. Osam also added that through their support for the finalisation of the collective bargaining agreement, the Board of Trustees once again demonstrated the value they give towards academic development.  Prof. Dr. Osam stated that Eastern Mediterranean University gives special value to humanity and community and, in this respect, its operations are all targeted towards the benefit of the society and science. Prof. Dr. Osam added that through the settlement of the collaborative bargaining agreeement, special values such as transparency, accountability and productivity will be once again highlighted throughout the university. At the end of his speech, Prof. Dr. Osam thanked the chair and the members of the Board of Trustees as well as the chair and members of EMU Academic Union for their support and contributions throughout the process.

EMU Academic Union’s General Secretary Yektaoğlu stated after a long period of 5 years, violations of the rights of the academic staff have come to an end.  Yektaoğlu added through the collaborative bargaining agreement they have re-gained the rights of the members. At the end of her speech, Yektaoglu thanked all those who supported them throughout the process.

Following the speeches, Chair of the Board of Trustees İsmail Arter, EMU Rector (a.) Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and EMU Academic Union’s General Secretary Aybike Yektaoğlu put their signatures on the collective bargaining agreement.
