EMU Student’s Work Entitled “Varosha:Hope” Published in Dystopia

Eastern Mediterranean University Communication and Media Studies Faculty, Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design postgraduate student Farrukh Safarzade’s work entitled “Varosha:Hope” has been published in the book titled Dystopia in England.

Prepared within the framework of the postgraduate course “Studio Practice II” delivered by Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Department Acting Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senih Çavuşoğlu,  Farrukh Safarzade’s work “Varosha: Hope” has been published in the book entitled “Dystopia” which includes over 30 digital illustration artists’ works.

This exciting new book explores why people are so captivated by gritty, violent worlds and looks at how recent releases such as ‘The Hunger Games’ have created an incredible snowball effect, encouraging new works and reminding us of the classics. Fantastic contemporary artwork by a range of great artists features alongside punchy text, bringing to life dystopian worlds full of cyberpunk fashion where the cameras are always watching.

Stating that his work entitled “Varosha: Hope” has been developed upon the theme of ‘peace’, Safarzade added that the history of Cyprus as well as abandoned places such as Varosha have given him the inspiration to pursue a project in this respect. Putting forth that his project is a representation of the new generation, Safarzade also added that his work signifies the transition from darkness to light, towards a new world and peace.

Safarzade also expressed his pleasure in studying in EMU, a place where faculty members give serious opportunities to students to demonstrate their skills and, at the same time, develop themselves. Safarzade also added that after his arrival in EMU, he adopted a new vision and different skills. Talking about the strong infrastructural facilities of EMU, Safarzade stated that students are given the independence to work on their chosen fields, which is an important detail.
