EMU Undergoing ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 10002:2014 Inspections

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) is currently undergoing inspections of the world renowned IQ Net member Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System and ISO 10002:2014 Student Satisfaction Management System.The inspection process started with an opening meeting at the Senate Hall located at the EMU Rector’s Office. The meeting which took place on Tuesday, the 21st of February 2017 started at 10:00 a.m.

The meeting was attended by EMU Vice Rector for Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Sevin Uğural, TSE TRNC Director Kemal Kızıltan, TSE Lead Auditor Rıza Buğra Alp Giray Okumuş, EMU Total Quality Management Inspection Center Director Hasan Kavaz and academic/administrative unit representatives.

Speaking at the opening meeting Prof. Dr. Uğural touched upon the importance of administrative units obtaining accreditation as well as academic units. Prof. Dr. Uğural also expressed her desire to continue gaining ISO certificates adding to those obtained last year. Prof. Dr. Uğural concluded by thanking everyone working in a devoted and productive manner in order to make this happen.

TSE TRNC Director Kemal Kızıltan noted that they have been working with EMU for a year, expressing his pleasure regarding working with the TRNC’s largest and oldest university. Kızıltan stated their aim as further increasing the high quality of EMU, indicating that the results will be announced after three days of inspection, field visits and group meetings.

TSE Lead Auditor Okumuş stated that this is his first time in the TRNC expressing his pleasure regarding working with the TRNC’s biggest university. Finally, EMU Total Quality Management Inspection Center Director Hasan Kavaz noted that obtaining ISO certificates is an important way to document quality stating that work done in order to obtain ISO certificates helps make up for the shortages of the university. Kavaz pointed out that quality and the number of graduates have both increased whilst the loss of students has decreased.

TSE representatives will hold meetings with unit managers and carry out inspection on documentation between the 21st and 24th of February 2017. The said representatives will also conduct field trips with the purpose of observing the functioning and operations of each unit within the university. Following the inspection, EMU hopes to gain ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System and ISO 10002:2014 Student Satisfaction Management System certificates which have recognition in 36 countries.
