EMU Walks for Stray Animals

Students and staff of Eastern Mediterranean University have taken another step toward becoming an "Animal-friendly Campus ".  EMU Animal Rescue Club and Neuter-Vaccinate-Let Live Project volunteers organized a walk with the slogan “Don’t Buy, Adopt! Don’t Leave, Own”. A crowded group of students and academic staff, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. M. Yaşar Özden ve Prof. Dr. Özgür Eren attended the said walk.

The walk commenced at EMU Sabancı Dormitory with animal activists carrying banners with unique statements including "EMU is My Home, too "; "Don’t Buy, Adopt "; "Don’t Leave, Own"; "My Place is Next to You "; "One Plate of Food, One Cup of Water ". For the past four years, EMU Animal Rescue Club has undertaken the feeding of stray cats and dogs on campus as well as their parasite elimination. On its fourth year, the Neuter-Vaccinate- Let Live Project volunteers continue with their relentless efforts in improving the situation of stray animals, including their neutering. As part of the project also supported by EMU Rector’s Office, ill, pregnant, old and new born animals on campus are being taken care of at the temporary facilities. At the end of the walk, project volunteers thanked all supporters for their financial support, stating that they are successfully maintaining the protection of stray animals based on the understanding of them living together with humans. EMU Rector’s Office stated that they will continue their support for the project which should be taken as an example by other Turkish Cypriot universities as well as institutions and individuals in all walks of life.
