Faculty of Education is Going Through the Accreditation Process

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) English Language Teaching (ELT) Department provides education for English teachers who will go on to become experts in their field . The department, which was established in 1995 within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, is also one of the founding departments of the Faculty of Education in 2000. ELT continues providing education as the oldest and most rooted department of the Faculty of Education with over 1000 graduates from 14 different countries. ELT offers undergraduate, graduate without thesis, graduate with thesis and Ph.D. programs.

ELT undergraduate program is a four year plan. In the department, primary objective,  in addition to training qualified language teachers, is to train english teachers who are sophisticated, conscious, self-confident, creative and aware of ethical values. Program is in the accreditation process of Germany’s AQAS (Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programmes) accreditation institute.

EMU English Language Teaching (ELT) Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülşen Musayeva Vefalı pointed out their graduate program is in the accreditation period by a team with 5 members. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vefalı also stated that in order to have a successful accreditation period, all staff members continue their hard work.

Assoc. Dr. Vefalı stressed that during the visit from the AQAS team, Rectorate, Faculty Management, academic personal, graduates, curriculum, course outline, methods and techniques, credit system (ECTS), various academic meeting notes, ELT strategic plan, instructional possibilities, labs and library are examined and evaluated. AQAS team also visited EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Abdullah Y. Öztoprak at the beginning of the visit.

AQAS is an accreditation institution which accredits European Union (EU) universities’ teaching departments, and will inspect EMU English Language Teaching Graduate Program according to the EU quality assurance standards to provide the accreditation.
