Students from EMU Tourism Faculty Visited İzmir and Aegean Region

Eastern Mediterranean University Tourism Faculty organised a tour of Izmir aiming to help students discover the cultural heritage of the said region. Students from Tourism and Hospitality Management and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Programs participated in the trip which took place under the guidance and supervision of EMU Tourism Faculty academic staff members Assist. Prof.  Dr. Nazenin Ruso and Senior Instructor Turan Değirmencioğlu .

Participated by 30 students from 8 countries including Pakistan, Cameroon, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Jordan, Russia, TRNC and Turkey, the tour of İzmir provided the students with a cultural mosaic. Students had a chance to visit İzmir Saat Kulesi, Narlıdere, Urla, Alaçatı Rüzgar Gülleri, Çeşme Castle and Çeşme Harbour, Şirince churches, Greek Houses, Efes mosque and baths, Artemis temple, and Kuşadası bazaar. On the second day of the visit, the group participated in the 8th Plant Festival at Alaçatı. Dean of Tourism Faculty Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç stated his pleasure regarding the trip and put forth that the festival was extremely beneficial for the students of gastronomy and culinary arts as they discovered over 1000 different types of edible plants.

On the last day of the tour, students discovered the historical Kemeraltı bazaar as well as the historical lift. Dean of Tourism Faculty Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç stated that the faculty formerly organised tours to İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Batum and that similar visits will continue as the faculty aims to convert theory into practice through cultural visits as such, allowing the students to possess information on cultural heritage, environment, ecology and local cuisine of a certain region.
