TRNC Prime Ministry and EMU Signed Economy Protocol

“Protocol for Pursuing Projects toward the Development of Economy” was signed between Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Prime Ministry and Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Abdullah Y. Öztoprak signed the protocol on February 19th 2014 Wednesday. In addition to the Prime Ministry Chief of Cabinet Hüseyin Gürşan; academic staff of EMU Banking and Finance Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Besim and academic staff of EMU Department of Economy Assist. Prof. Dr. Kamil Sertoglu and EMU Public Relations and Press Director Dervis Eksici were present at the protocol signing ceremony.

The signed protocol aims for the collaboration between EMU Rector’s Office and the TRNC Prime Ministry during the implementation determined or to be determined economy policies and in the studies done for maintaining a sustainable economic structure in TRNC, in addition to getting contribution from EMU’s academicians and experts to pursue economic development projects. It was announced that contributions from TRNC universities other than EMU will be accepted for projects toward economic development. Sector-based analyses, policy suggestions and action plans will be prepared within the protocol framework with contribution from EMU and other TRNC universities for a stable and sustainable economic growth.

Prof. Dr. Öztoprak: “Community service is among EMU’s duties.”

EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Abdullah Y. Öztoprak who evaluated the protocol agreement, stated that EMU do not only provide high-quality education but also has a sense of social responsibility about community service issues; and that he is happy to sign such a protocol and they will try to contribute to the economy. “Academic staffs from many different countries with their own expertise are now educating students at EMU. Among these are very valuable names from economy, finance and politics fields. We are proud that experts from EMU will be sharing their opinions and projects with the Prime Ministry.” said Prof. Dr. Öztoprak and added that they will provide the necessary contribution for a sustainable economic structure for TRNC.
