EMU Plays a Pioneering Role in Social Media Application

Eastern Mediterranean University successfully continues to provide up-to-date information to its students through the use of social media tools. Established in 2011, EMU Social Media Unit is the first social media unit within TRNC providing services within the operations of the university. Coordinator of EMU Social Media Unit and Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School academic staff member Raziye Nevzat stated that over 60,000 users follow EMU in social media which enables the university to connect with about 3 million individuals. Nevzat added that social media unit provides 7/24  services and responds to students’ queries in an ongoing fashion.

The Social Media Unit has been established with the primary purpose of connecting with prospective students, graduates, current students, academic staff and the EMU Family in general. By using various social network platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and  Youtube, the Social Media Unit provides information on the latest developments taking place within the university and, at the same time, directs incoming questions to the relevant units so that appropriate responses are provided.

During the university preference period, along with twitter and other social media tools, the unit promptly responds to questions through Whatsapp and Viber applications. Nevzat stated that she represented the university in the 2014 Social Media Conference in the UK where she had a chance to meet important representatives of Google, Twitter, Youtube and Facebook and exchanged information on the latest trends in the field of social media. Nevzat added that Eastern Mediterranean University was the only university from the TRNC participating in the event. Nevzat put forth that as EMU Social Media Unit, they will continue to provide informatory services to students.
