Turkey’s Women’s Team and Nigeria’s Men’s Team Become Champions in EMU “Cup of Nations Basketball” Tournament

The champions of the “Cup of Nations Basketball” tournament, organized by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Sports Affairs Directorate, were announced after the final matches played on Tuesday, 28 December 2021. In the women's final match, Turkey defeated the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with a score of 26-13 and became the champion. In the men's final match, Nigeria defeated Iran with a score of 29-5 and became the championship. In the third place matches, Lebanon, after defeating Uganda with a score of 12-10 in women’s category, became third, whilst Turkey, became third by defeating Uganda with a score of 37-13 in men’s category.

Sports Players Presented Awards

Zeynep Tan was selected as the top scorer and the most valuable female player of the tournament with 50 points. In men’s category, the top scorer of the tournament was Marho Okorefe with 38 points, and the most valuable male player was Abdallah Mahmoud. The most gentleman women's team of the tournament was Uganda, whilst the most gentleman men's team was Lebanon. Nigeria won the award for the community that supported their team the most. Zeynep Tan won the Free Throw Contest, Emre Baycan won the Three Points Contest, and Sari Aljoulani won the Slam Dunk Contest.

At the end of the tournament, successful teams and sports players were presented awards by EMU Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu, Director of Sports Affairs Cemal Konnolu, and the staff of the Sports Affairs Directorate.
