Center for Cyprus Studies (DAÜ-KAM)

The Center for Cyprus Studies (DAÜ-KAM) is an interdisciplinary research and public service establishment reporting to the Office of the President at EMU. It was established in 1995 with the objective of encouraging scholarly research on the cultural history and political problems of Cyprus. The Center aims to provide an academic and intellectual forum on multiple aspects of Cyprus-related issues with an emphasis on social, cultural, historical, political and legal matters relevant to the past, present or future of the island of Cyprus. Fields of research supported by the Center range from archaeology, anthropology and economics to history, linguistics and folklore.

The Center is engaged in the following fields of activity:

  • Encouraging studies on Cyprus-related issues
  • Fostering close contacts with other institutions involved in related research
  • Developing documentation resources on Cyprus-related studies for the use of researchers

The Center organizes international and local conferences, panels, symposia and lectures in order to disseminate knowledge. Two of such events organized on regular basis are the International Congress on Cyprus Studies, which attracts multinational participants from different parts of the world, and the Symposium on Cypriot Turks Who Have Left a Trace Behind, a kind of academic commemoration of famous Turkish Cypriots who contributed to the well-being of their community. The Proceedings of these and other events are also published. The Journal of Cyprus Studies is a biannual, refereed, international, interdisciplinary, bilingual publication of the Center. It publishes original critical essays, book reviews, bibliographies, and archive of significant historical, legal, political and cultural documents. The Center is currently working on a web-based archive of the Turkish Cypriot Arts.
